Elimite (Permethrin) is a prescription medication used to treat adults and children with scabies and pubic lice. Scabies is a skin condition caused by mites that cause irritation and itching. The mite lives on the skin and burrows into it, especially the fingers. Scabies is contagious and spread to others through close skin-to-skin contact. The active ingredient in Elimite cream is Permethrin. Permethrin belongs to the group of medications called Scabicidal Agents and Pediculicides. It works by paralyzing and killing the mites and their eggs. Permethrin cream or lotion may be used for conditions not mentioned above. However, you should consult your doctor before use.

Elimite Dermal Cream (5%/30 gm) from Canada also called Nix Dermal Cream by GSK and the brand Elimite lotion (5%/100 ml) from Canada also called Kwellada-P by Advantage Solutions and the generic Permethrin Dermal Cream (5 %/60 gm) from India also called Permite by Encube Ethicals.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while using Elimite Derma cream. The most common side effects of Elimite may include:
• Mild burning sensation;
• Redness of the skin;
• Skin irritation;
• Unusual sensation of the skin (paresthesia)

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, including:
• Allergic reactions such as difficulty in breathing;
• Continued irritation of the skin;
• Exacerbation of asthmatic symptoms;
• Pus-filled areas on the skin

Before you start using Elimite cream, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Permethrin, pyrethrin, or chrysanthemums. Elimite comes as a cream or lotion and should be applied on the skin's affected areas only. Use the medication as directed by your doctor. Avoid contact with the eyes or mucous membranes (inside the nose, throat, genital region) or open wounds. You should rinse immediately with water or normal saline if the cream comes in contact with the mentioned areas. You should wear gloves to avoid possible hand irritation when treating someone with scabies. Inform your doctor if the Permethrin cream or lotion did not suppress the itching for an alternative treatment option. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Have skin infections;
• Have asthma or other respiratory diseases

Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. It has unknown if Elimite cream has a severe side effect during pregnancy. In addition, it is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. However, you should consult your doctor before breastfeeding while using Permethrin cream to treat scabies. Do not use Elimite Dermal Cream in newborns and infants less than two months of age unless your doctor tells you so. There may be a drug interaction between Permethrin and other medications, such as corticosteroid cream. Store the cream in a safe place and away from the reach of children.
