Diltiazem Topical Ointment (Diltiazem) is a prescription medication used to heal anal fissures and reduce pain and spasms associated wth anal conditions. The medication also promotes wound healing. An anal fissure is a small tear in the lining of the anus that can cause sharp pain, especially during or after a bowel movement. It may also cause bright red bleeding on the toilet paper or in the stool. Fissures often happen because of straining, constipation, or diarrhea. The pain can cause the muscle around the anus to tighten or spasm, which reduces blood flow to the area and makes it harder for the fissure to heal. The active ingredient in Diltiazem Topical Ointment is Diltiazem. Diltiazem belongs to a class of medications known as calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing the internal anal sphincter muscle and increasing blood flow to the affected area.
