Detrol LA (Tolterodine LA) is a prescription medication used to treat overactive bladder (OAB) in adults. OAB is a condition characterized by a sudden, strong urge to urinate, frequent urination, and involuntary leakage of urine. The active ingredient in Detrol LA is Tolterodine LA. Tolterodine LA belongs to a class of medications known as anticholinergics. It works by blocking the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that signals the bladder muscles to contract. By blocking these signals, Tolterodine LA relaxes the bladder muscles, which helps to increase the bladder's capacity, reduce the frequency and urgency of urination, and decrease episodes of incontinence.
