Cotazym (Lipase/Protease/Amylase) is a medication that contains three digestive enzymes: lipase, protease, and amylase. These are natural substances needed by the body to help break down and digest food. This medication is used when the pancreas cannot make or does not release enough digestive enzymes into the gut to digest the food. Medical conditions that can cause lack of enzymes are cystic fibrosis, chronic inflammation of the pancreas, or blockage of the pancreatic ducts. Cotazym belongs to a class of drugs known as enzymes or digestants.
