Cequa (Cyclosporine) is a prescription topical solution used to increase the production of natural tears in the eyes due to inflammation of the eyes. Dry eye disease (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) may affect the ability of the eyes to produce tears. The active ingredient in Cequa is Cyclosporine. Cyclosporine belongs to the class of medication called Ophthalmic Calcineurin Inhibitors. The exact mechanism of action is not known. In people whose tear production is presumed to be suppressed due to ocular inflammation associated with dry eyes, cyclosporine emulsion is thought to act as a partial immunomodulator.

We currently offer the brand Cequa from Canada manufactured by Sun pharma in the strength of 0.09 % (0.25ml) Vials. The generic version is not available.
Get medical help immediately if you have any signs of an allergic reaction while taking Cequa. The most common side effects of Cequa may include:
• Eye pain after administering the medication;
• Redness of the eyes;
• Swollen eyelids
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, including:
• Blurred vision;
• Feeling like something in your eyes;
• Severe eye pain, irritation or burning sensation;
• Watery eyes
Do not use Cequa if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Do not allow the vial tip to touch your eye or any surfaces to help avoid potential eye injury or contamination of the medication. In addition, you should not apply Cequa if you are wearing contact lenses. If contact lenses are worn, they should be removed before using Cequa and may be reinserted after 15 minutes. Put one drop of Cequa twice daily into each eye using a single-use vial. The solution should be used immediately after opening and discard the vial and remaining contents immediately after using.
Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Are younger than 16 years;
• Have glaucoma or corneal ulcer
Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to get pregnant. During pregnancy, Cequa should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. It is unknown if Cequa is safe and effective in children below 18 years Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Cyclosporine and other ophthalmic medications such as fluocinolone, fluorometholone, levobetaxolol, and betaxolol. Store at room temperature. Store Cequa single-use vials in their original foil pouch.
