Aklief cream (Trifarotene) is a prescription topical cream used to treat acne vulgaris on the face and torso in adults and adolescents over the age of 9 years old. Trifarotene belongs to a class of medications called retinoids. It belongs to the group of medications called acne therapy. This medication works by affecting the growth of cells and decreasing swelling and inflammation. Aklief cream may decrease the number and severity of acne pimples and it can speed up the healing of pimples that develops. This medication will clear the skin pores and keeps them clear. You will begin to see improvement 4 to 8 weeks after starting the medication, with more improvement as you continue to use the Aklief cream.

You may have some common side effects especially during the first 4 weeks of using this medication. The common side effects include:

You should limit your time in the sun and avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Inform your doctor right away if you get sunburned or have skin blisters or redness. Do not use Aklief cream during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breast-feeding. If you use this medications while breast-feeding, do not apply it on the nipples or areolas.
