Venclexta Information

Venclexta (Venetoclax) is used to treat certain types of cancer such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia-CLL, small lymphocytic lymphoma-SLL and acute myeloid leukemia-AML. Venetoclax belongs to the class of medications called B-cell lymphoma-2 (BCL-2) inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of a certain protein in the body that helps cancer cells hence slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells. This medication binds to the protein, helping to kill the cancerous lymphocytes in the blood and bone marrow. Venclexta is used in combination with azacitidine, decitabine or cytarabine to treat acute myeloid leukemia in adults who are 75 years or older who are unable to use chemotherapy.
