Reclast (Zoledronic Acid) is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of a certain type of bone disease known as Paget’s disease that causes abnormal and weak bones. This medication is also used to treat osteoporosis in men and women after menopause. It may also be used with cancer chemotherapy to treat bone problems that may occur with multiple myeloma and other types of cancer that have spread to the bones. Zoledronic acid belongs to the class of medications known as bisphosphonates. This medication works by lowering high blood calcium levels by reducing the amount of calcium released from your bones into the blood. It also works by slowing the breakdown of your bones by cancer to prevent bone fractures.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant because this medication can harm an unborn baby. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. It is unknown if Zoledronic acid passes into breast milk because it may harm a nursing infant. Zoledronic acid may stay in your body for many years. Talk to your doctor before breast-feeding.
