Euflexxa is used to provide relief from knee pain due to osteoarthritis. It is especially for those patients who do not get relief from simple pain medications such as acetaminophen, exercise or physical therapy. After Euflexxa Injection into the knee, it temporarily replaces the HA that has been lost and also stimulates the knee to produce its own healthy HA. Studies have shown that HA might help to provide pain relief for up to a period of 6 months. Euflexxa contains 1% sodium hyaluronate, a gel like, elastic and natural substance found in the body. Hyaluronan is present in large amounts in the tissues, and in the fluid that fills the joints. It acts like a lubricant and shock absorber in the joint and is needed for the joints to function properly. The Euflexxa shot is only for the injection in the knee and is performed by a health care professional. Euflexxa helps to replace your knees own hyaluronan. Euflexxa comes in pre-filled syringes containing 2 mL of the product. It is directly injected into the knee joint by a doctor. Euflexxa is injected once a week, for a total of 3 injections.
