CIPRO XR (Ciprofloxacin) is a new extended release tablet of Cipro (ciprofloxacin).
Cipro XR (500 mg qd ) is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections (acute cystitis) caused by Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Enterococcus faecalis, or Staphylococcus saprophyticus.
Cipro XR (1000 mg qd ) is indicated for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis, Proteus mirabilis, or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Cipro XR (1000 mg qd ) is indicated for the treatment of acute uncomplicated pyelonephritis caused by Escherichia coli.
Important Safety Information
Serious and fatal reactions have been reported in patients receiving concurrent administration of ciprofloxacin and theophylline. Monitor theophylline levels if concurrent administration cannot be avoided.
The safety and effectiveness of Cipro XR in children, adolescents less than 18 years of age, pregnant women and lactating women have not been established. Cipro XR is contraindicated in persons with a history of hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or any quinolone, and should be discontinued at the first sign of an allergic reaction.
Cipro XR should be administered at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after antacids containing magnesium, aluminium, or other products containing metal cations. A 2-hour window between substantial calcium intake (>800 mg) and dosing with Cipro XR is recommended.

CIPRO side effects that may occur while taking CIPRO include stomach upset, loss of appetite, diarrhea, nausea, headache, vision changes or dizziness during the first few days as your body adjusts to this medicine. If CIPRO side effects continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience CIPRO side effects like tendon pain, joint pain or swelling, sunburn-like skin reaction (sun sensitivity), or severe or continuing diarrhea. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience CIPRO side effects like seizures, mental or mood changes, easy bruising or bleeding, swelling of throat or tongue, persistent sore throat or fever, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, stomach pain, yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, unusual change in the amount of urine, or unusual fatigue.CIPRO side effects may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition (pseudomembranous colitis) due to a resistant bacteria. This condition may occur weeks after treatment has stopped. Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medicines if you have the following symptoms because these products may make them worse. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you develop CIPRO side effects like persistent diarrhea, abdominal or stomach pain or cramping, or blood or mucus in your stool. USE OF CIPRO FOR PROLONGED OR REPEATED PERIODS may result in CIPRO side effects like oral thrush or a vaginal yeast infection. Contact your doctor if you notice CIPRO side effects like white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms. If you notice other CIPRO side effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
